4 Tips to Ace Your Scholarship Application
Once again, the United Methodist Higher Education Foundation invites you to apply for a chance at the $2+ million in scholarships we award every year! Want to ace your applications? Here are four tips from our Director of Scholarships.
- DON’T WAIT. The April 1st deadline* may seem a long way off, but we suggest submitting early! Applications are processed as they come in, meaning you could be among the first to hear if you’ve been awarded, as early as the beginning of June. Wait too long and you risk not having time to pull together required supporting documentation, including letters of recommendation required for the General Named Endowed application.
- PLAN AND GATHER FIRST. Visit the General Named Endowed Scholarships and UM Dollars for Scholars pages to review requirements for each application. Gather what you need before applying to save time!
- GO AHEAD AND BRAG. We want to hear what you’re good at, involved in, and how you’ve contributed to your community, school, and church. If the application asks you to tell us about your involvement and accomplishments, don’t hold back!
- ASK FOR HELP. Have a question, confused about a requirement, or having issues with an online application? Don’t let it stop you! Contact us. UMHEF staff is here to help.
* The deadline for some specialty awards may differ.
