A Legacy of Promise New Scholarship Honors Jim Tennill's Heart for Children and Education

Jim TennillWhen Jim Tennill helped found the Portland Promise Center—a faith-based community development center in Louisville, Kentucky’s Portland neighborhood—he was driven by a deep commitment to children and education. Now, thanks to his wife Priscilla Garland, that commitment will live on.

Priscilla partnered with the Portland Promise Center and the United Methodist Higher Education Foundation to establish the Jim Tennill Jr. Portland Promise Center Scholarship Fund in memory of her late husband, who passed away in early 2025.

As a financial advisor for over forty years, Jim helped countless clients plan for their futures. An active member of Christ Church United Methodist in Louisville, he invested deeply in his community and in young people. Through this scholarship endowment, students will have the opportunity to build futures of their own, ensuring that Jim’s investment will continue paying dividends for years to come.

Priscilla launched the fund with a founding gift, and now friends, family, and others who share Jim’s passion for education are invited to contribute. Gifts of any size help grow the fund and ensure scholarships can be awarded to deserving students each year.
