5 Simple Tips for Acing Finals

5 Tips for Acing College Finals

Are you facing finals or feeling the pressure of mid-semester? Here are 5 simple tips for acing it.

  1. Make a plan. You’ve heard the saying, “When you fail to plan, you plan to fail.” Look ahead at class syllabi and mark deadlines and test dates in your calendar, then schedule time to study.
  2. Avoid cramming. Building on number 1, planning allows for the chance to take it one step at a time. Set daily or weekly goals to avoid cramming at the last minute.
  3. Take breaks. Studying and completing assignments are important, but don’t forget to also prioritize mental and physical health. Take a walk, stretch, or go get a meal with friends.
  4. Do what works for you. Use the study methods and aids that work best for you (i.e. summaries, flashcards, study groups, quiz yourself, or teach the material to someone else).
  5. Use resources. Don’t just rely on class notes. Utilize review sessions, talk to your professor or TA, and visit student support services to maximize understanding and retention of subjects.

The United Methodist Higher Education Foundation is here to support you while attending a UM-related college, university, or seminary. We award upwards of $2 million in scholarships every year.
