4 Tips for Preparing to Apply for Scholarships

Applications for scholarships from the United Methodist Higher Education Foundation open January 1 for the 2026-2027 school year. Every year, UMHEF awards upwards of $2 million to students planning to attend a United Methodist-related college, university, or seminary. Get ahead of the game! We have four tips for preparing to apply for scholarships.
  1. START NOW! Learn about available scholarships, eligibility, important dates, and more.
  2. ASK FOR LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION. If you plan to apply for the General Named Endowed scholarships program, go ahead and identify and ask the pastor and teacher who will provide these letters for you so they’ll be ready!
  3. KNOW THE PROCESS. Review the application process so you know what we require.
  4. SET A SCHEDULE. Mark in your calendar when you’ll work on your UMHEF applications so that you’re sure to meet the March 1 deadline.
