back to college tips

Whether you are stepping onto campus for the first time or starting your final year, the United Methodist Higher Education Foundation has tips for setting yourself up for success. Here’s to a great year!

  1. Get organized. Start the school year off on a good foot by organizing yourself. Between class and study schedules, time with friends, and even remembering to call home, a planner or calendar app will make for smooth sailing.
  2. Create a study area. A dedicated space for studying can help you get and stay focused. The ideal spot may be on or off campus and should be comfortable with limited distractions. While some do better with a study partner, you may prefer studying alone.
  3. Find community. To thrive instead of just survive in college, find community. Attend campus events, introduce yourself to classmates, and consider joining a club or intramural sports team. Get more tips for making meaningful connections on campus.
  4. Ask for help when you need it. Familiarize yourself with resources available at your school to students needing a hand. Seek out the help of professors, student support services, spiritual life office, and friends. You don’t have to do it alone.
  5. Have fun! College is hard work, so make time to relax. Having fun in college can help you feel more engaged, motivated, and balanced, and can also improve your academic performance. Enjoy this time, it goes by fast!
