The Gift of Possibility Meet UMHEF Scholar Don'Tavius Sanders

The Gift of Possibility

Rev. Don’Tavius Sanders, 2025 recipient of the UMHEF Ernest I. Bass & Eurice Miller Bass Scholarship tells of the full impact of the support. He attends United Theological Seminary.

Receiving this scholarship is both a humbling honor and a tremendous blessing for me and my journey in theological education. I know firsthand the sacrifices and challenges that come with pursuing higher education in this field. Tuition, books, travel, and other academic expenses often weigh heavily on students, sometimes threatening to overshadow the joy of learning and preparation.

This scholarship helps lift that weight, giving me the freedom to fully invest my energy into my studies, ministry, and the call God has placed on my life. The significance of this support extends far beyond the present moment. What you have given me is not just financial relief—it is the gift of possibility. It is the chance to keep dreaming, to keep pushing forward, and to grow into the leader, pastor, and servant I am called to be.

Years from now, when I am serving in congregations, mentoring young leaders, and helping communities of faith flourish, the investment you made in me through this scholarship will continue to bear fruit. The impact of your generosity will ripple outward, touching lives and shaping ministries that extend well beyond anything I could accomplish alone.

You have not just provided resources—you have affirmed my calling, encouraged my pursuit of education, and reminded me that I do not walk this journey alone.
